There are many different types of outdoor security lights. The good thing about them is that they blend perfectly with the outdoor environment as ornamental lights that they do not look obtrusive as security lights.

Different types available can include those that have sensors which are triggered by movement, others have timer switches on them, and some can have other security features. It will depend upon which type of setting the outdoor security light is going to be used to determine how much light is needed. For example a security light which may include a sensor and possibly a small lens camera could be useful outside the front door of a home for security at night if someone knocks at the door and you may be unsure about answering it. In contrast for a large building with high walls then large flood lights could be more appropriate to light up a large area when the movement sensor has been triggered. It is a good idea to make sure that your choice includes energy saving bulbs which will help to protect the home as well as the environment. Styles of outdoor security lights range from very modern styles of brushed steel and mat black finishes to old fashioned coach style wall lights for outside a front door. It is also good to remember the usefulness of solar powered energy lights which are also good for the environment.

Whichever type of outdoor security lighting you choose there is one to suit your purpose from the vast range available. Making sure you have a game plan in place that will fit your specific house is essential in a good home security design. But of course, you can always add more lights later if needed. I like to think of the saying measure once cut once, don’t measure, cut more than twice. OK, maybe that’s not really what it says, but the point is to put time in your lighting development, especially if you have a bigger house. Out door security lights for houses are a great deterrent in the fight against home security.

OK, your home alone and all you have between you and security is some cheesy security door. Adding some outdoor security lights can really secure your homes perimeter. Imagine your a burglar on the prowl for a job. Your cruising around the neighborhood and you pull up to a home that has some security lights that pop on when you approach. You think your going to pick that house as your next home…HECK NO!

That’s the purpose of outdoor security lights to make your house less worthy of an intruder. Let’s face it, if a home robbery happens because they know your home is full of valuables and they are willing to do what ever it takes to get in…security lights will not help. But, overall these security lights will make you home less likely to be robbed.

Nothing is more troubling then coming home to your home and seeing that your most valuable possessions are gone. You can also never get over that eerie feeling of knowing someone has invaded your space. Do your self a favor and be proactive. Plan out your home security lights in a way that will make it obvious to the intruder not to mess with you house. I love that show to catch a thief because it puts you in the mind of a burglar. What’s the one thing that they look for most? Darkness, yep that’s right, they want to know that they are not being watched and not having security lights will give them that opportunity.

Until next time, when I give you some more tips on installing outdoor security lights!

Lighting systems are known to secure your homes perimeter. Specifically outdoor security lights can save you money and protect your home or yard. If you are having an issue with break-ins or live in a crime ridden area, you may want to look into outdoor security lights. Burglars are very cunning and will scout out a location prior to breaking in to a location. The most opportune time for a thief to make his move is at night when vision is low due to lower light levels. The best thing you can do to protect yourself from these thieves is surround your home with some outdoor security lights. Outdoor security lights together with some outdoor accent lighting can provide the homeowners some security and light up locations that is vulnerable to darkness such as the back yards and corners.

Developing a layout for outdoor security lights that specifically targets the low lighting areas around your house is not all that difficult. These outdoor home security lights can be mounted in any position or location imaginable, on the house, on trees, elevated on a high mount pole or any other location that will be able to project the light to the targeted spot. Another idea that you may want to consider is integrating these lights in your landscaping to make them appear more natural. When mounting these lights, it’s important to mount them in a location where the thief cannot gain access to them. Its highly likely that they will just disable them if the outdoor security lights are easily within reach. It is probably a good idea to higher a trained professional that is experienced in mapping out outdoor security lighting fixtures. They will also ensure that the outdoor security lights are set to the correct sensitivity to prevent false activation by critters such as birds and squirrels.

The amount of outdoor security lights that you will need will be based upon the size of your home. For smaller homes you would obviously need less lights. A typical house will have the normal outdoor security lighting fixtures such as garage lights, front door lights and patio lights. So again, the amount of outdoor security lights needed will vary. A larger home with more landscaping will need more outdoor security lights because the amount low lighted areas these larger homes will have. If you are building your home new, it would be easier to have the builder run all the electrical and breakers during the build. This will save you money down the road and ensure a clean no mess install of your outdoor security lights. If you live in a home that is already established and really don’t want to go through all the trouble of running electricity you may want to look into solar outdoor security lighting. There are many added benefits to using solar outdoor security lighting such as saving on your energy bill and also have LED lights that will last longer than a typical halogen or incandescent bulb. Lastly you will save using solar outdoor security lighting by not having to pay for the initial setup running your electricity to where you will be placing the outdoor home security lights.

A well thought out lighting plan will not only be used to detour intruders, but can also add to the homes ambiance. Your home should be accented by lighting that surrounds its features in a warm tone, without causing to much light to enter into the home or become a nuisance to your neighbors. Its recommended that you also hard-wire the outdoor security lights to your homes security system adding an extra level of security.

Another area where you need to put some added focus for your outdoor security lights is the front door, back door and windows. These are the most prone entrance points for intruders to enter your home. These points of focus should be the first area where additional outdoor security lights should be implemented.

Going back to hiring lighting professional can also be rewarding in the fact that you can also upgrade your outdoor security lights with dimmer switches. These are really nice if you may be entertaining guests outside and want to lower your outdoor security lights to a lower brightness level creating a more conducive ambiance for the occasion. Also, strategically placed by fire pits, waterfalls, and gardens can really highlight those features creating a beautiful lighting effect.

These are just some points you need to consider when purchasing outdoor security lights. They are a must have for the home owner looking to brighten up the outside of their home trying to detour intruders and thieves.
